WHAT IS TMS THERAPY?

TMS Therapy is a cutting-edge, non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment offering remarkable success in treating various mental health conditions for adults and adolescents. It is a form of brain stimulation therapy, utilizing electromagnetic pulses to activate nerve cells and potentially alleviate symptoms associated with neurological and mental health conditions.

Is TMS Therapy Right For You?

TMS is a breakthrough treatment in the field of psychiatry. It has provided newfound hope for those struggling to find relief through conventional therapies. TMS may be right for you if conventional psychiatric medications are not helping, you experience impairing side effects from medications, or your daily life is disrupted by symptoms of a mental health condition.

TMS may not be suitable for you if you have implanted metallic devices or non-removable metallic objects around your head, implants controlled by physiological signals (like a pacemaker), epilepsy, a history of head injury, or other significant neurologic problems. Your safety is our top priority, and our team will help you explore alternative treatment options if needed.

Orion TMS specializes in TMS Therapy Treatment for the North Chicago suburbs.

THETA BURST

Theta burst stimulation (TBS) is a form of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) that employs an advanced stimulation pattern involving high-frequency bursts within the theta range. The theta wave plays a role in learning processes and memory creation that effectively guides the brain to relearn pathways that may have become inactive or overactive.

Due to this methodology, TBS sessions are significantly shorter (3 minutes) than standard TMS sessions (19 minutes), producing equal benefits with minimal risk of adverse side effects. These shorter sessions are an excellent fit for individuals wanting efficient treatment without compromising results (or their busy schedules).

  • Who is a good candidate for TMS therapy?

TMS therapy is typically recommended for individuals who have not experienced significant improvement with traditional treatments such as medications or therapy. Candidates often include those with treatment-resistant depression or anxiety. A comprehensive assessment by a qualified healthcare professional will determine if TMS therapy is suitable for you.

  • What can I expect during a TMS session?

During a TMS session, you'll be comfortably seated while a magnetic coil is placed against your scalp. The coil delivers repetitive magnetic pulses, creating tapping or clicking sensations on your head. Sessions usually last around 20-40 minutes, and you can resume your daily activities immediately after treatment.

  • Are there any side effects of TMS therapy?

TMS therapy is generally well-tolerated and has fewer side effects compared to some other treatments. Common side effects may include mild scalp discomfort or headache, which typically diminish over time. Severe side effects are rare, but your healthcare provider will monitor your progress closely throughout the treatment course.

  • How long does a typical TMS treatment course last?

A standard TMS treatment course consists of daily sessions for several weeks, usually ranging from 4 to 6 weeks. The exact duration may vary based on your individual needs and treatment response. Your healthcare provider will work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.

  • Does insurance cover TMS therapy?

TMS therapy is usually included in the coverage of many insurance plans. It’s advisable to reach out to your insurance provider to confirm your eligibility.

For those without insurance coverage, we offer competitive self-pay rates. To learn more about these options, please reach out to us for detailed information.

  • Do you take over all my psychiatric and/or medical care?

We only provide the TMS intervention and the necessary evaluations related to this.  It is important that any other doctors working with you during our treatments communicate any medication changes.
